What if our daily lives, due to the increasing influence of technology, shift to the virtual world? How will museums be affected, and what influence will it have on the way we experience art?
Imagine stepping into a world where museums exist in a 3D digital environment. ‘Blueprinting Museum 2.0’ guides you through a journey of speculations,
as eight young creatives share their visions of a virtual museum. Scan the prints to catch a glimpse of this possible future, and join in by contributing your own mark to the collaborative blueprint of tomorrow’s museum.
For this project, I interviewed eight individuals in their twenties who either work or study in the creative field. I asked them five questions to speculate on how they envision a museum in a digital 3D environment. To ease them into the concept, I first presented an overview and then prompted them to imagine how they would personally navigate a virtual museum and how they would prefer to experience art there. I explored what they would miss and what could enhance the experience if museums existed in a virtual setting.
I translated all eight speculations into blueprints. I chose blueprints because these visions of a virtual museum are concepts we contemplate but do not yet exist in reality. It is something that we potentially could build.
When you scan the print with an iPad, they come to life. Various elements emerge in the height and form a dynamic, moving interplay. As you watch these animations, you hear the individuals share their vision. With the iPad, you can get a glimpse into this potential digital future of museums.
